What actually goes on the floor?
Three layers. A pigmented epoxy base, vinyl flake broadcast into it while it is still wet, then a clear polyaspartic topcoat. The carport on this site is the Raven Flake system: black epoxy base, white and grey flake blend, polyaspartic over the top.
Epoxy or polyaspartic? Which one is it?
Both, doing different jobs. Epoxy is the base because it soaks into freshly ground concrete and grips hard. Polyaspartic is the topcoat because it is UV stable, chemical resistant and anti scratch, and it cures a lot faster than epoxy does.
Will it hold up outside through a Utah winter?
That is what the polyaspartic is there for. It does not yellow in the sun the way a bare epoxy will, and salt and slush wipe off it. The carport and the front porch in the gallery are both outdoor floors.
My concrete is cracked and stained. Is it too far gone?
Usually not. Grinding takes off the weak top layer, and cracks and pits are filled before any coating goes down. The porch in the gallery came in spalled and cracked. A slab with structural damage or a serious moisture problem gets flagged at the estimate rather than after.
What does it cost?
It depends on the square footage, the state of the concrete and which system you pick, so it gets quoted in person. The estimate itself is free and it is done in person, standing on the concrete.
Can you work around a business staying open?
Yes. The tint shop office and bathroom floors on this site were done around the shop’s own schedule. Say what your hours are at the estimate and the job gets planned around them.
Can I choose the flake blend?
Two blends show up on this site: a white and grey flake over a black base on the carport, and a lighter pumice blend on the front porch. Bring a look you like to the estimate and you will be shown what the base and broadcast can do.
Do you work with other installers?
On bigger commercial floors, yes. The shop base coat in the gallery was run alongside Beehive Epoxy. Residential jobs are handled in house.
